Tap-To-Pay: One-Way Fares Now Available with Credit Cards

PRONTO now accepts credit card payments for one-way adult fares, including mobile wallet and smartwatch payments.

In a hurry? Don’t have a PRONTO card or app? Simply tap an accepted credit card (including digital credit cards) on a PRONTO validator (located on rail platforms or at the front of buses).

Your one-way fare is valid for two hours, and includes free transfers* during that window. (*See transfer chart.)

How Does It Work?

  1. Tap your physical or digital debit or credit card on a PRONTO validator. Visa, Mastercard and Discover cards are accepted, including mobile wallet and smartwatch payments.
  2. A one-way adult fare will be charged to your payment method ($2.50 buses, Trolley and SPRINTER. Additional fees for Rapid Express, Rural and COASTER apply.)
  3. Your one-way fare is valid for two hours. See the transfer chart for transfer rules.
  4. When transferring, use the same payment method to tap on the next rail or bus validator.
  5. Any taps that happen outside of the two-hour transfer window will incur another one-way charge. NOTE: There is no fare capping with credit card payments. To get the value of a Day Pass ($6), you must use the PRONTO card or app.

Check your Previous Payments/Trips

You can view your trip history using the buttons below.

If you think you have been overcharged, compare your tap history below to your credit card statement.

  • Due to varying timeframes credit card companies have for finalizing charges, please allow five (5) days for actual charges to show. You may see more ‘pending charges’ on your statement than the final amount charged to your card.
  • Please be aware that the date your payment appears on your bank statement will not be the same as the date you travelled, it will usually be a few days later.
  • If you have additional questions, please call the PRONTO Support Team at 619-595-5636.

Transfers with Contactless Payment

A one-way fare with your credit card will cover select transfers, depending on where you start your trip. Please refer to the chart below for specific details. Please note: You MUST tap on and off the COASTER to be charged an accurate fare. If you do not tap off, you will be charged a one-way 3-zone fare.
